More than fifty out of a hundred houses built with funding from the Housing Development Fund, FFH, are abandoned and degrading in the Picoco II neighborhood of Boane district in Maputo province.
The villagers complain that the buildings erected about 10 years ago serve as shelters for evildoers.

The construction of the houses began in 2007 with the financing of the Fund for the Development of Housing (FFH) worth fifty two million Meticais, but not all were completed. The FFH says that all 100 properties have already been sold, so they are no longer the responsibility of the institution.

The houses are in an area of 100 hectares made available by the local government for the implementation of the project, even with electricity and piped water and access roads the number of families that live here is still insignificant. While the owners do not manifest the bush is taking care of the houses that also serve as hiding places for the friends of others, according to residents.

The district government is aware of the danger that these unoccupied dwellings pose for the safety of the residents of Picoco II and gives ultimatum to the owners. And because it’s been a long time since the headlines have turned up, local authorities have decided to turn one of the houses into a police station.
