Breaking news! Ethics Commission confirms conflict of interest in “Mesquita Case”

The director of the National Commission of Public Ethics, former Frelimo MP Alfredo Gamito, confirms that there was a violation of the Public Probity Law by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita.

According to a statement released yesterday by the entity, the Minister of Transport and Communications has entered into a conflict of interest, by signing commercial agreements with the concessionaire of the port of Beira – Cornelder – company of which he is a shareholder.

This same company came to be directed by the brother of Carlos Mesquita, when this one was invited to the Government, in 2015.
“The Commission, analyzing the facts including the contradictory opinion of the Minister, has adopted the decision that there are conflicts of interest,” said Alfredo Gamito.

Regarding the direct adjustment by INGC to the company Transportes Carlos Mesquita, linked to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Alfredo Gamito explained that an evaluation is underway, which could be concluded next week. The head of the Ethics Committee explained that the opinion of the institution was drawn up following a request from the Attorney General’s Office.
