According to Victor Borges, the governor of Nampula Province, approximately US$500-million is needed for the precious gems and metals certification and trading center in Nacala.
Speaking on the side-lines of the first edition of the International Gems and Precious Metals Fair in Nacala, Governor Borges said the center would promote Nampula’s mining potential.
“It will be a system in which the State cannot lose. Today we sell mineral resources at a low price, and we cannot afford to go on losing money. The center will encourage fair negotiations”, he said.
The governor said that the opening of the center would coincide with the completion of the works of the planned airport commercial hub and citadel and the full operation of Nacala International Airport, encouraging both business and tourism.
The first edition of the International Gems and Precious Metals Fair in Nacala attracted more than 40 exhibitors from the north of the country and the central province of Zambézia. Nacala was chosen to host the show as a city with great natural resource potential.
