Later this month the government of Mozambique will launch an international tender to select the company that will finance and run the final project for digital migration, the president of Transporte, Multiplexação e Transmissão (TMT) announced in Beijing.
This company is an entity made up of public radio, television and telecommunications companies Televisão de Moçambique (TVM), Rádio Moçambique (RM) e Telecomunicações de Moçambique (TDM) in order to operate the system for transmission and distribution of the digital signal.
On the sidelines of the sixth digital television development in Africa seminar, which runs until Friday, in the Chinese capital, Victor Mbebe told Mozambican news agency AIM that the final project for digital migration was already due to have started, but said he hoped the process would be completed by the end of the year.
Mbebe also said that, despite delays due to revaluation of the initial project, the process never stopped, and since December 2015 been transmitters have been installed in Maputo, Beira and Nampula and others are being assembled in Quelimane and Tete.
The pilot phase of digital migration cost about US$3.5 million, which was financed by public and private entities and the cost of the final project will only be known after the international tender is awarded.
