The government of Mozambique has ordered three Schiebel Camcopter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) with vertical take-off and landing for use in Ocean Eagle 43 ocean-going patrol vessels, reported the Mer et Marine website.

The three patrol vessels were delivered this month, after being ordered in September 2013 under a contract worth US$200 million with French shipbuilder Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN), which included three HSI 32 interceptors and 24 vessels for tuna fishing.

The three Camcopter S-100s were ordered from Austrian company Schiebel, which carried out some flight tests in Cherbourg, northern France, and which will be concluded in Mozambique due to legal restrictions on the use of such vehicles in France.

The manufacturer of the equipment states it can operate both day and night, in adverse weather conditions, at a maximum distance of 200 kilometres from the operator, both at sea and on land.

The Ocean Eagle 43 is 43.6 metres long, reaches a maximum speed of 30 knots and has a range of 3,000 nautical miles at 20 knots.
