Turkish Airlines launches Istanbul-Maputo connection using an Airbus 330-300

Turkish Airlines Wednesday launched its Istanbul-Maputo route with the aim of using the Mozambican capital as a platform to bring African passengers to Turkey and bring tourists to Mozambique, said the deputy chairman of Turkish Airlines for the African sale region, Said Samil Karakas.

The Istanbul-Maputo route will be operated three times a week with an Airbus 330-300, which seats 261 passengers in economy class and 28 in business class.

TAP was previously the only company to provide direct links between Mozambique and Europe, as Mozambican airline LAM remains on the blacklist of companies barred by Brussels from flying across Europe.

Last year, the Mozambican and French authorities signed a memorandum to establish an air link between the two countries. In addition to France, the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique signed a similar memorandum with the Netherlands, whose main airline, KLM, is n Air France partner.
