2015-07-20) Two unidentified Mozambican nationals have been arrested at the Lebombo Border post, after being found in possession of mandrax drugs estimated at having a street value of R3 million (around US$214,473), SABC reports.
According to the police the two were travelling in a truck from Mozambique to South Africa on Sunday night.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala says the mandrax is estimated at having a street value of R3 million.
Mohlala says the 10 bags of mandrax were discovered hidden behind the seat of the truck during a random stop and search at the border post.
Mohlala says last week a person was arrested in possession of drugs called ‘khat’, also at the Lebombo border post. He says they are intensifying their operation at the gate.
Lebombo Border Post is situated in Komatipoort in the Nkomazi Municipality east of Mbombela, this border post between Mozambique and South Africa.
This is the busiest border crossing in the province, it is well known for drug smuggling, human trafficking and the smuggling of counterfeit goods.
Police are currently pursuing leads to define the scope of the duo’s involvement in other criminal activities.
