Mozambique Labour Inspectorate suspends 59 illegal foreign workers, fines 23 companies

(2015-05-28) Twenty-three companies from various areas in the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Tete, Sofala, Manica, Gaza, Maputo and Maputo city were identified by the General Inspectorate of Labour as having hired and used illegal foreign workers.

In total, 59 illegally employed foreigners were hired, the Ministry of Labour reported in a statement. These workers have been suspended. Most are Zimbabweans and Chinese. Fines were imposed on the companies in amounts which vary according to the wages earned by each employee.

Cabo Delgado

In Cabo Delgado, four Portuguese and four Chinese workers were suspended in the companies ‘ANF Construções’ and ‘Sawers Cap Lda’.

Nampula

In Nampula, illegal workers were caught in the companies ‘Metavila’ (1 Portuguese) and ‘Hand Commercial’ (1 Chinese).

Tete

In Tete, 11 workers were suspended in the companies ‘Probe Mining Mozambique Lda’, ‘Casa das Modas’, ‘E.I.’, ‘Áua Caloera Lda’ and ‘Berry Juice Construction Lda’, from South Africa, China, Portugal and Zimbabwe.

Manica

In Manica province, 12 illegal workers were suspended in the companies ‘Rubel Commercial’, ‘Bar Triangulo’, ‘Angelique International Lda’ and ‘Punjan Trading’. The workers were from Bangladesh, India and Zimbabwe.

Sofala

In Sofala, four workers were suspended in ‘Capital Outsourcing’ and ‘Consórcio Associazon Conil’, all of Italian nationality. In the companies ‘NCC Mocambique Lda’ and ‘BGC Beira Commercial Group’ one Portuguese worker and one of Chinese nationality were suspended.

Gaza

In Gaza, 14 Zimbabweans were suspended in the construction company ‘N-Frasys’.

Maputo Province

In Maputo province, five Chinese were suspended in the companies ‘Building Fidelity Lda’, and ‘C.C.M. Kingjee Real Esllate Lda’.

Maputo City

In the Mozambican capital, five Portuguese workers were suspended, who worked in the following companies: ‘Transitex Mozambique Lda’, ‘Metaloviana Moçambique Lda’ and ‘Mediterranean Shipping Company’.
