(2015-05-07) Turkish Airlines has launched a new flight route between Istanbul International Airport / Ataturk and Maputo International Airport in Mozambique.
The new route will have three flights per week and will start on October 28. The trips will take place in A330-200ER Airbus planes and will stop at the Mozambican capital after another stopover in Johannesburg. It is a triangular flight, which will serve two important Southern African countries.
The Istanbul-Maputo flight is direct, while on the return to Istanbul, passengers will need to make a stopover in Johannesburg.
The new connection is being launched with a promotional fare of 600 euros (round trip with all taxes included), with yet another bonus for passengers departing from Lisbon and Oporto – two Portuguese airports also served by Turkish Airways – with tickets at a price of 770 euros, round trip with all taxes included.
If a passenger wants to make, for example, the flight from Lisbon to Maputo, this would be an alternative to TAP Portugal as it is the only European company that flies to the Mozambican capital. However, with Turkish Airways, passengers must have a wait in Istanbul for about 2 hours on the way to Maputo and 2 hours and 10 minutes on the return.
The trip from Lisbon to Istanbul is 4 hours and 35 minutes long and from the Turkish capital to Lisbon the flight lasts 5 hours. Between Istanbul and Maputo flights will take another 12 hours and 10 minutes, while the return flight from Mozambique to Turkey has a duration of 12 hours and 5 minutes.
These flight times are also valid for passengers wishing to make the journey in reverse, i.e. between Mozambique and Portugal – Maputo-Johannesburg-Istanbul-Lisbon and back – and tickets are for sale at the same promotional price (770 euros).
