(2015-05-07) Works on the rehabilitation of the Save bridge which divides the central province of Sofala and the southern province of Inhambane started on Tuesday.
The Mozambican state radio reported that during the maintenance period, traffic will be limited on the stretch of the EN1 highway, which connects the southern and northern regions of the country.
The rehabilitation will last for three months, according to the national broadcaster. Traffic will be interrupted between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.
The National Road Administration said that the traffic will be interrupted in the regions of Vila Franca do Save, in Guvuro district, and the village of Zimuara, in Machanga district.
The 810-meter-long Save bridge was launched in 1960 and inaugurated in 1972. The daily medium traffic on the bridge is between 240 and 300 vehicles, with lorries as the majority.
